Brent King is a composer, keyboardist currently living on Vancouver Island. His love of music started at a very young age as he enjoyed a very musical upbringing. He started singing and touring as a member of the Saskatoon Boys Choir at the age of 11. He took an interest in learning the organ around the age of 15 and started to emulate his favourite artists through hours of practice. He was strongly influenced by the keyboard stylings of Jimmy Smith, Ramsey Lewis and Oscar Peterson just to name a few. He started to play around Saskatoon in local recitals and made a name for himself as a versatile, valuable band member. Over the years Brent toured and played with Canadian bands including The Bogart Brothers, Julio Cerama Band, Vision, Brickhouse, Ventilation Pipe and Blue-Eyed Soul. As he started his family Brent chose to work closer to home composing and songwriting. He composed and recorded multiple instrumental albums including Images and Themes,(Vol. 1 and 2), and Calling Card. Brent's compositions have been recorded by other artists and have been included on several successful albums. As a composer Brent has worked with many talented song-writing partners over the years. He enjoyed his most prolific collaboration with Dorian Medd. Today, Brent is semi-retired and is enjoying the beauty and tranquility of Nanaimo, B.C. He is still an active supporter of local music and can often be seen mentoring up and coming local talent.
Dorian Medd has been playing in bands and writing songs since he was 13. Dorian currently lives near Chicago. His love of music began on a Sunday evening in 1964 when The Beatles first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. Over the years Dorian has been strongly influenced by music as diverse as Jim Croce, Simon and Garfunkel, to Steely Dan and Howard Jones. From folk, to pop-rock, to jazz. In the early years, Dorian toured with Medd & Shaw and recorded 5 popular vinyl records, making a name for themselves and contributing to the smooth Pacific West Coast Sound of the 70’s-80’s. Dorian recorded a solo EP with veteran producer, Guy Sobell, entitled Soft Touch, followed by collaborations with various known and talented musicians and songwriters before
releasing a duo recording under the moniker My Dog Has Fleas. Dorian first worked with the brilliantly talented Brent King almost 30 years ago. Now with much more experience and respected credits under his belt, Dorian has produced a solo CD of Brent King’s smooth electro jazz compositions. Dorian also co-wrote and sang on the bonus tracks included on the CD. Today, Dorian is semi-retired, but continues to write music and remains attuned to the music industry as voting member of both CARAS – Junos (Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences), and NARAS – Grammy’s (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences).
